JOURNALISM: PRACTICE CASE FOR NEW USERS

JOURNALISM: PRACTICE CASE FOR NEW USERS

This case relates to a journalist. While you may be studying in a very different area there are still opportunites to learn from others and there are some very good responses to this case - none of them right or wrong!

It also uses a slightly different framework - so the concepts and tiles may differ from the ones you are famialir with. That is ok - the process is the same.

---------------------

You're a journalist covering political stories for the Newtown Daily Herald.

Your boss wants you to go undercover as a prostitute to entrap a politician. The boss has been given a tip off that this MP frequents the red light district every Thursday night and is expected to give a speech in the House on Friday on the importance of family values.

You're not really sure who tipped your boss off and whether they are genuine but your boss feels it's a worthwhile lead. This could well prove to be a very significant story in terms of exposing the MP and advancing your career.

The boss has approached you first but has said he'll ask your colleague Debbie if you decline. From what you know of Debbie she's unlikely to refuse.

What should you do?

It is proposed that you agree to go undercover
