Do brighter stars go 'supernova' first?

Do brighter stars go 'supernova' first?

Are stars that are brighter in the sky closer to us, or are they bigger then other stars? Stars that die (or go supernova) first, are bigger, but does that necessarily mean they are the brightest ones in our sky?
Do brighter stars die first if bigger stars do?
