ANIMAL WELFARE

ANIMAL WELFARE

Animal welfare groups continue to protest against animals farmed in what they describe as ‘inhumane’ conditions. By contrast, many farmers continue to assert the right to farm in ways that they regard as ‘efficient’ and ‘profit-making’.

Welfare groups point to situations in which pigs are held in cages too small for them to turn round in. And they give examples of hens held in very crowded conditions, which live their short lives never seeing natural light.
